Common Threads

Common Threads is a conversation between LGBTQ+ and Midwestern
identities, as shown through objects. By distributing a thirteen-question poll
to more than eighty individuals who self-identified as LGBTQ+, midwestern, both,
or neither I was able to examine the overlap in experiences between my
surveyors. Visual representations of these overlaps as experienced by
Midwestern LGBTQ+ surveyors were printed on cloth and sewn together. By creating
a completed quilt, I am able to explore the common thread of identity tying communities
together, relying upon color and joy to assist in translation.
